i also got to spend an interesting night aboard my friend jonavens 40ft chinese junk-a-thon in pedder bay. we got worked at 4am by a very sneaky storm.

ok so then we skipped back over to the mainland and got to see The Sword open for Kyuss!!!! i know, it happened it was great and it was at the commodore. if you missed it then you certainly did miss it.
the next morning i had a ticket booked to mazatlan to shoot the wedding of a very fine couple indeed, ciele and garrett staples. i think i actually surprised the bride by making my flight in the morning, like im anything less than professional?! what happend next was a fantastic voyage, and i definitely returned home muy tierno…

this is jonavens new boat. it is sweet. we got caught in a storm at 4am. i woke to jonaven screaming at me to wake up, good thing i slept in my clothes cause i had to get on the wheel while jonaven pulled up the anchor as we dragged ourselves towards another anchored ship which we missed narrowly. then i proceeded to steer us right onto a sandbank-ive never dealt with a ship like that before, it was dark and pissing rain!?!- good thing it was low tide, the water was rising. we ended up tying a long line to the closest dock and winching ourselves sideways off the sandbar and i guess kinda getting outa some serious shit and into smoother waters. we initially were planning on taking this thing around van island and had a laugh at our abilities and madness in a small bay…good luck to us.

on to the wedding!! well, the first night there, the best man got into some trouble with the hotel security guard, and the latter ended up getting tossed in the pool by the former. it was kinda funny but not funny to the people that were calling the shots. he ended up getting the boot for the whole trip. so the 2nd day we had a contest for the new best man. strangely enough it was won by a women.

did the highwood.   9th annual?  10th?  7th?    who knows, but this one was pretty great.   last year we got rained out a bit, still went for one bomb which was slow, then saw hank 3 in the city.  fine fine.  this time it was perfect. weather was great,  crew was too,  and took place on the solstice!  MOONFISH!!   we did the south side twice, the north once, when the sun was going down.  was quite beautiful really.  saw a grizzly, some elk, deer and one cranky hag that tried real hard to let us know that what we were doing was “ILLEGAL!!!”  .     when your maybe 65km/hr  on a tiny piece of wood trying not to peel your face on the pavement its really only the lip reading that makes any sense,  no sounds from those judging lips.     apparently the hag was dedicated about this,  and at the bottom of the north side we were treated to a visit by one of k countries finest,  and she sniffed out the booze likkety split.   dang!  actually was one of the more civil encounters with the fuzz ive been through in my time,   and after a few booze tikkies, she gladly posed with us for our annual highwood sk8 photo, as long as there were no rude gestures(see photo for proof).   we did not get any tiks for the actually skating,  only the booze, so soon as she split, we bombed the rest of the north side, and got a great view of the sunset on the first day of summer.   quite a great time.       blah blah blah,   heres the photos.

ive been at home frizzle frying my eyeballs on this computer screen for the last week and a bit.  i got some surgery done to a stupid little hernia, so now i get to have 9 staples holding my guts in and wince in pain everytime i sneeze.   the doc also said i need help with any heavy lifting, so i suppose i should call someone everytime i have to pee…  haha  ummm..(stolenjoke)

so heres the update.  lots happened since the last post, but i guess you only get to know about the sunday brunch hike.  just where the access road to sunshine ski hill meets the trans can highway, there is a mountain on the north side of the highway called mt corie.   pasted right down the middle of mt corie is a chute called la corridor.(we renamed the chute “sunday brunch” as the french jew wanted us to have a nice relaxing sunday brunch meal before we started the hike. which would have put us at a start time of about 4pm, which put us to the top at about 9pm!?!)   i been scopin this chute for plenty years now,  and finally got the jam to go up there this spring.   after some advice from friends kyle wooly and mr dan hudson, who shredded it some years back,  myself and friends  goldy and the french jew hit it up.   to make a long story boring,  the hike up was absolutely the worst thing ever!  scratch that, maybe the shred down the chute was the worst thing.   we post-holed up the mountain for about 4+ hours, inventing new hiking techniques and wishing we brought more water.  whatever.  we got to the top and setup camp, chopped down a tree for firewood,  spent the next 3 hours trying to dry out our boots and instead effectively burnt them into napalm,   then got horribly drunk.  and when i mean horribly i mean it was pretty sweet.  we had a great view to banff, a great fire, great friends.   we stayed up pretty much all night, except for about 30 minutes in the morning where i fell asleep by the fire and woke up with my pants smoking and charred.   note from the wise, a bottle of whiskey and good talk is a fine substitute for a sleeping bag, and fits way easier in your backpack.

enter the top of the sunday brunch chute.   we had to do a mandatory 10-15ft cliff into the chute, which we all mastered horribly.  then for the next 10 min or so we all had the worst snowboard experience of our lives.   the snow was shit, thats all im gonna say.   it was funny listening to us all coming down though, still brings a smile to my face…

all in all was a fine time indeed.  would certainly do it again,  except under better snow conditions, and maybe get a chopper to drop us at the top.  hmm.

so petey kore and i took a few days outa our mindsore work schedules to drive our winter home out to the island. a 14 ft trailer that has just enough room for pete to pace 4 steps back and forth, .. i cant wait for it this winter.

so we were on the island and got to paddle out for a few which was surprisingly good after my shoulder surgery a few months ago i feelin good and need a little more muscle but thats what she said right.. RIGHT!?!?

yeah so now im back home and get to try to $$$ my life right now, but barack is in now so that should be alot easier now right? arent we all gonna be richer now.

shit, i just read on how the estimates for the value of the oilsands has now made every persons value in canada go up from 30 grand to something like 230 grand. so we all get to be worth more now that theres more oil there for rich people to get richer on and sell it to us at lots and rip up our earth and smoke up our air and kill the bees and plankton. are we fukked in 20 years? 30? now maybe?

we do vic til march then indo for 6 weeks after. nice to spend the winter in a wetsuit in shit cold water, black bears, seas lions, rain, mist, snot, and then get to indo for boardy shorts, zinc, sunburnt ass, blue water and sharp coral reef.

last week i was in saskatoon visiting jenny and stole her back here for a few days and she left yesterday. it was a very nice visit but too short. on saturday i shot photos at roni and daves wedding which was fine and dandy. and now im listening to the dead kennedys and have the f’ing flu cold double combo knockout and have shit dripping out my smeller. its past my bedtime but i probably will have more ice cream and watch democracy now before i pass out. tomorrow i will go do an interview with jonas for the new noboarding video and then hope we go out to morely and shoot some bullets out a gun. my throat hurts and my eyes are bugging out. i hope im not having a flasback.  hey thanks to tristan for working all this shit out for me. yer a swell guy who doesnt mind having job title of bitch. sweet now the violent femmes just came on and thats ice cream eatin music if i’s ever heard. peas out
